Lendl Simmons (49) and Bilawal Bhatti ( 2 wickets) the only positives from the Karachi Kings performance from today.
By PakPassion.net Staff (17th February, 2016)

Result: Peshawar Zalmi won by 5 wickets (with 9 balls remaining); Karachi Kings 152/7 (20/20 ov), Peshawar Zalmi 158/5 (18.3/20 ov)

Toss: Karachi Kings won the toss and elected to bat

Karachi Kings XI: LMP Simmons, Shahzaib Hasan, Shoaib Malik*, RS Bopara, Shakib Al Hasan, MH Wessels†, Bilawal Bhatti, Mohammad Amir, Usama Mir, Sohail Khan, Saifullah Bangash

Peshawar Zalmi XI: Mohammad Hafeez, DJ Malan, J Allenby, BJ Hodge, Kamran Akmal†, Shahid Afridi*, DJG Sammy, Aamer Yamin, Abdur Rehman, Hasan Ali, Imran Khan (1)

Karachi Kings: Shahzaib and Lendl Simmons looked to start off postively, but had a hard time timing the ball. After a scrappy run, Shahzaib finally found the boundary twice, before Hasan Ali struck back, taking his wicket. Debutant Riki Wessels got out soon after. Lendl Simmons continued on, hitting some lusty blows before dragging one back onto the stumps. Malik kept the scoreboard ticking with ones and two's till he was adjusdged out by the 3rd umpire in a highly controversial call. The ball could have just as easily been ruled a no ball as there was no part of the foot visible behind the line to the naked eye. Boundaries started to dry; Bopara and Shakib struggled to beat the bowlers and had to settle for ones and twos. Shakib in an effort to accelerate perished with yet another abysmal score this tournament. Bopara fell the very next over. Sohail Khan and Billawal Bhatti hit a couples of sixes between them. Hasan Ali bowled a tight last over giving away only 5 runs off it. Karachi end up on 152/7 in their allotted 20 overs.

FOW:

1-41 (Shahzaib Hasan, 5.5 ov)
2-53 (Wessels, 7.4 ov)
3-83 (Simmons, 10.4 ov)
4-97 (Shoaib Malik, 13.1 ov)
5-127 (Shakib Al Hasan, 17.1 ov)
6-134 (Bopara, 18.1 ov)
7-147 (Sohail Khan, 19.1 ov)

Peshawar Zalmi: Peshawar innings had a most inauspicious start with Mohammad Hafeez falling cheaply to a fairly happy Mohammad Amir, Malan did not last too long after that. The target is was not a high one so perhaps batting heroics were not the need of the hour and after a brief rain delay, Usama Mir removed Allenby who looked settled. Shahid Afridi came and went, becoming Bilawal's 2nd victim. Kamran Akmal's run out for 8 brought in Brad Hodge who in the face of a rising required run rate launched a brutal assault on Karachi bowlers, taking his side to a 5 wicket victory whilst remaining not out on 85.

FOW:

1-4 (Mohammad Hafeez, 0.6 ov)
2-25 (Malan, 4.4 ov)
3-58 (Allenby, 10.2 ov)
4-69 (Shahid Afridi, 11.5 ov)
5-121 (Kamran Akmal, 15.6 ov)

Match summary: Peshawar Zalmi bowlers set the scene for this victory, allowing not much to the Karachi King batsmen. Despit Lendl Simmons 49 and early loss of Mohammad Hafeez, the Karachi Kings total was never going to be enough to challenge a a strong side like Peshawar Zalmi.
