Toss: Pakistan A won the toss and elected to field first.

Teams:

Pakistan A: Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Amin*, Shan Masood, Sohaib Maqsood, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Faisal Iqbal, Mohammad Rizwan†, Ehsan Adil, Aizaz Cheema, Usman Qadir, Yasir Shah & Imran Khan.

South Africa: GC Smith*, AN Petersen, HM Amla, JH Kallis, AB de Villiers†, JP Duminy, F du Plessis, RJ Peterson, RK Kleinveldt, VD Philander, DW Steyn, M Morkel & Imran Tahir.

South Africa Innings

Graeme Smith and Alviro Petersen were asked to bat on a batting friendly wicket at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. It wasn't long before Pakistan A struck first blood as Smith was trapped LBW for just 2 by Ehsan Adil. In came Hashim Amla, who played a solid knock before retiring for 50. Petersen wasn't far behind either as he scored a half century to build his sides score to 137/3 before retiring. Jacques Kallis replaced Amla, and he continued from where Amla left, scoring an attacking 50 including 4 sixes and 6 fours.

After scoring a solid 70, Kallis was caught and bowled by Sohaib Maqsood as South Africa were reduced to 234/4. Ab de Villiers joined Duminy and he was on the attack straight away. He moved on to an attacking 50 off just 63 balls. 10 balls later, he was caught by Umar Amin on 58.

Pakistan A's bowlers didn't seem threatening at all during the day's play or it might be just the class of the South African batsmen. 4 of the 5 South African batsmen scored 50+ scores, as Duminy and Du Plessis ended a tiring day for the Pakistani bowlers at 332/5.

Fall of Wickets

1-8 (Smith, 6.1 ov),
2-113 (Amla, 36.6 ov), [Retired out]
3-137 (Petersen, 39.6 ov), [Retired out]
4-234 (Kallis, 63.5 ov),
5-261 (de Villiers, 68.3 ov)

Match Summary

Pakistan A bowlers took a beating on Day One. Although they struck early, Petersen, Kallis and De Villiers rebuilt that early loss as Pakistan A couldn't capitalise. Duminy on 49 and Du Plessis on 25 stand tall as they ended Day 1 at 332/5 after 90 overs.
