Sri Lanka Innings
Sri Lanka lost their first wicket in the fifth over of the match, when Mohammad Irfan dismissed Tillakaratne Dilshan with a full, quick delivery trapping the batsman LBW. Dilshan decided to go for a review, which proved to be a wasted review as the ball was crashing into the leg stump.
The rain caused a halt in play only one over after the Dilshan wicket fell. The match resumed after a 45-minute delay, the match as a result was reduced to 45-overs per side. Sri Lanka lost their second wicket when Upul Tharanga fell victim to a well bowled delivery from Wahab Riaz that swung just enough to get an outside edge, the wicketkeeper Umar Akmal made no mistake behind the stumps. Mohammed Hafeez put Pakistan on top by dismissing Kumar Sangakkara in the very next over, Sangakkara mistimed a cut shot, lobbing it straight to the fielder at backward point.
Sri Lanka fell in deeper trouble when they lost their 4th wicket, Chandimal top edged a delivery from Mohammad Irfan that went straight to the fielder at deep fine leg.
Senior pro Mahela Jayawardene and captain Angelo Mathews stabilized the Sri Lankan innings with a brilliant partnership of 116 runs.
Jayawardene brought up his 73rd ODI fifty in the 35th over, captain Angelo Mathews also completed his fifty in the same over. The partnership was finally broken when Jayawardene was run out by Umar Akmal after scoring 63 runs.
Angelo Mathews continued to play a brilliant innings, taking the attack to the Pakistani bowlers. Wahab Riaz removed a dangerous looking Thisara Perera with a beautifully bowled slower bowl.
Mathews missed out on his maiden ODI hundred when he was bowled by Wahab Riaz on 89 (85). Sri Lankan batsmen to their credit accelerated the innings brilliantly despite losing wickets at regular intervals.
At the end of their innings, Sri Lanka piled up a mammoth total of 275 runs in the allotted 45 overs.

Pakistan Innings
Pakistani openers started steadily until Angelo Mathews removed Mohammad Hafeez with an angled delivery that struck him high on his pads, the umpire raised his finger right away, Hafeez decided to go for a review but the review couldn't save him as the ball was clipping the top of the bails.
Sri Lanka got their second wicket when Younis Khan got out playing an outrageous shot, he dragged the ball from outside off stump with a lap sweep that flew off the middle of the bat straight to the fielder at long leg.
Umar Akmal was the next to fall when he mistimed a lofted on drive, Malinga took a good catch at mid on. Ahmed Shehzad was also dismissed, just 1 run short of his fifty, Shehzad was undone by an in-dipper from Thisara Perera.
Pakistan was in all sorts of trouble when they lost their captain Misbah-ul-Haq, losing their 5th wicket with only 106 runs on the board.
Fawad Alam and Sohaib Maqsood brought Pakistan back in the game with a match turning partnership of 100+ runs. which helped Pakistan mount a comeback from a seemingly hopeless situation.
The partnership was finally broken when Malinga removed Fawad Alam after he scored 62 runs but the damage was already done as the 147 run partnership put Pakistan on top. Sohaib continued his brilliant innings, and ended up scoring his highest ODI score.
Shahid Afridi hit the winning runs when he sliced one past the point fielder for a four. Pakistan won the match by 4 wickets.
