The ICC suffered a setback on Wednesday as the three judges appointed to decide on the spot fixing hearing earlier this month, ruled out the ICC's request that former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt be blocked from commentating for a Pakistan-based Urdu television channel during the World Cup.

Butt had been offered the commentary role for the entirety of the World Cup, but no sooner had the role been offered to him, than the ICC requested the Tribunal to prevent Butt from taking on the role.

Whilst the Tribunal in Doha had determined that Butt and his co-accused Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir be banned from playing cricket and coaching, there was no specific mention that any of them could not appear as television pundits.

The ICC requested clarification on the matter and the Tribunal has decided in favour of Butt.

Speaking to PakPassion.net; a source close to the hearing in Doha stated that "He [Salman Butt] can commentate. The ICC wanted the Tribunal to ban him from doing this and to accept his wrong. However the Tribunal has made it clear that their sanctions did not include any ban from commentating."

Butt is now expected to commentate on all of Pakistan's matches during the World Cup, including the knockout stages.

In addition, the source stated, "You cannot stop a man from earning money for his family and trying to make a living. If everything has been taken away from him, then at least let him earn money through commentary. If Salman had been stopped from commentary during the World Cup, then I'm sure he could have taken the matter further, as it would have been a breach of his human rights."

All three Pakistani cricketers have been told that they need to undergo an education programme courtesy of the Pakistan Cricket Board before they are considered for a return to cricket. The source clarified that the Tribunal had also recently confirmed that the three cricketers do not have to commence any education programme prior to any appeal and criminal matters are completed.
