Banned Pakistani pace bowler Mohammad Asif has followed the route taken by former team mate Mohammad Amir and appealed against the ICC ban imposed on him to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Following the International Cricket Council (ICC) anti-corruption tribunal in Doha earlier this month, 28 year old Asif had been banned for five years in the spot fixing case relating to the Lords test match played last year between England and Pakistan.

Sources close to Asif have confirmed to PakPassion.net that he has indeed sent an appeal against the ICC verdict to the Court of Arbitration for Sport today (Friday).

An ICC anti-corruption tribunal in Doha on February 5 handed out bans to then Pakistan captain Salman Butt, seamers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif for the roles they played in bowling deliberate no-balls during last year's Test against England at Lord's.

The appeal to the CAS by Asif was widely expected and he will be hoping that the CAS overturns the 5 year ban, or at a minimum reduces the term of the ban.

The CAS would be the final authority on the matter and both parties would have to accept the judgement by the CAS.
