Details of Shahid Afridi's ongoing feud with current coach Waqar Younis were revealed to PakPassion.net today when a source close to Afridi provided details of several heated exchanges between the one day/Twenty20 skipper and former Pakistan fast bowler turned coach Waqar Younis.

"Things got very heated and the language became pretty colourful on several occasions and that's why Shahid walked out from more than one selection meeting."

PakPassion understands that the ongoing disagreement between Afridi and Waqar dates back to prior to the World Cup and focusses on the role of Waqar in the selection of the final playing eleven.

Under current PCB guidelines the touring selection committee consists of the skipper, the vice captain, the team manager and the coach. Whilst Afridi has reluctantly accepted squads that were not entirely of his choice, he was unhappy that he was being overruled by the other members of the touring selection committee time and again whilst on tour.

The source added "The World Cup squad consisted of players that the captain did not want. He bit his tongue and reluctantly accepted it for the sake of his country, but the final straw was when the playing eleven that he wanted, was not being chosen. Again for the tour of the Caribbean, Afridi did not get the squad that he had asked for and once again at selection meetings, Afridi's favoured eleven players were passed over and some players brought in that Shahid did not approve of in the starting eleven."

PakPassion also understands that Afridi's biggest gripe is that he wanted to take responsibility for the starting eleven, but was ignored on several and overruled on several occasions.

The source added "Waqar is keen for youngsters to be given a chance, but Shahid is worried that some of the youngsters being favoured by the coach are not any better than the experienced players that have been dropped. Shahid wanted to put his neck on the line and choose the final eleven for each of the matches in the Caribbean, but was outvoted three to one, again and again, meaning that he was captaining a side that consisted of players that he felt should not have been in the starting eleven. He was prepared to take responsibility for the team that was selected, but never got that opportunity."

Whilst the PCB try desperately to play down the ongoing feud between Waqar and Afridi, PakPassion has also learnt that Afridi was likely to miss the 2 match series in Ireland later this month due to the deteriorating health of his father.

Afridi had asked the PCB to be excluded from the tour of the Caribbean due to concerns about his father's health, but it was his father who advised Shahid to tour the West Indies, a request that Afridi reluctantly agreed to.

However recent developments have meant that Afridi had to look for a hospital overseas to treat his father, as he was dissatisfied with the treatment in Pakistan that his father was receiving. Afridi is now likely to accompany his father next week to Houston, United States of America for the required operation and was already unlikely to play in Ireland.

The PCB have summoned Afridi for a meeting and whilst the discussions were likely to take place tomorrow, the source confirmed that "as yet, no final arrangements have been disclosed to Afridi for the meeting with the PCB Chairman."
