In between the sun, the intermittent showers and the raucous chants of "Happy Birthday Misbah" in Belfast, PakPassion.net caught up with the skipper and heard his views on the test series in the West Indies, Junaid Khan, the one day captaincy and the benefit of Pakistan playing a short two match series against a relatively weak opposition.

The Test Series in the West Indies

“Yes it's disappointing we didn't win the test series. It was a chance to make history and that was definitely on our minds. However we didn't play well enough in the first test, the wicket was tricky and the West Indies bowlers bowled well. However after the first test defeat I was pleased that the boys bounced back, fought hard and leveled the series. It was commendable that we won the second test and remained unbeaten in our last three test series.”

Devendra Bishoo

“He's a good prospect. He's obviously young and is still learning the game and has things to work on, but he has all the basic ingredients to do very well. He impressed me and if he works hard at his game he could be a very good bowler for the West Indies.”

The Benefit for Pakistan Playing in Ireland

“The conditions that we have encountered in Ireland are thoroughly different to Pakistan and are very testing for the batsmen. To get the opportunity to play in these conditions shouldn't be brushed aside especially by the younger, up and coming players. It's all part of their learning curve and definitely helps in becoming better cricketers. I'm pleased that we've had the chance to play these matches in Ireland.”

Ireland and Their Omission from the ICC World Cup

“It's a decision that's for the ICC to make. From my perspective, it's disappointing to see a team like Ireland who has beaten Pakistan and England respectively in the last two World Cups, not being given a chance to feature in the next World Cup. Ireland have shown that they are a very strong Associate team and deserve every opportunity to play against the test playing nations.”

Junaid Khan

“He's started his international career really well. He has a good attitude and works very hard on every aspect of his game. Junaid's a good team man, very positive and focused and the more he international cricket he plays, the more confidence he will gain.”

One Day Captaincy

“The decision on who captains the one day side in future is the PCB's of course. They asked me to lead the team in Ireland and I was happy to do that. I'm not desperate to be one day captain, but if the Board wish for me to skipper the one day side then I will do so. I've always made my intentions and priorities very clear and that is to play well for Pakistan, irrespective of whether I am captain or not. If someone else is captain then that is not an issue for me, I will play under anyone as skipper and am not anxious to lead the team.”
