Sources close to the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed to PakPassion.net that Dav Whatmore will arrive in Pakistan next week via India, to sign a 2 year deal with the PCB as Head Coach.

By Saj Sadiq (2nd January, 2012)

Sources close to the Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed to PakPassion.net that Dav Whatmore will arrive in Pakistan next week via India, to sign a 2 year deal with the PCB as Head Coach.

"Dav is currently on holiday in Australia and is due to arrive in India tomorrow. After a few days in India he will arrive in Pakistan next week."

From 2003 to 2007, Whatmore had been coaching Bangladesh and under his coaching, Bangladesh enjoyed relative success. The Sri Lankan born Whatmore coached them to their first Test match victory early in 2005.

Whatmore also coached Sri Lanka in two separate spells, during the first of which he won the 1996 Cricket World Cup. In between those spells, he coached Lancashire where he won the National League in 1998 and 1999, and the NatWest Trophy in 1998.

The source confirmed that Whatmore's visit to Pakistan will be a mere formality and that all terms and conditions had already been agreed between the PCB and Whatmore previously.

"All negotiations have already been concluded between the two parties and Whatmore will be in Pakistan to put pen to paper on a 2 year deal with the Pakistan Cricket Board."

"He will meet with the Chairman of the PCB Zaka Ashraf for the first time whilst in Pakistan, as well as senior PCB officials. The meetings are to be very informal as the minor details have already been settled upon. It literally is a case of Whatmore signing the contract and discussing his thoughts, ideas and plans with the PCB."

Whatmore has been the coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders team since 2009. In 2009, they finished last in the group stage and were eliminated. In 2010, they finished 5th and were again eliminated in group stage. In 2011, they entered knockout stage as they were 4th in group stage, but lost to Mumbai Indians.

Whatmore will take over from interim coach Mohsin Khan upon the conclusion of the Pakistan versus England series in February.

The source however did add though that if "things did not work out for either party then the option of ending the contract prematurely was open to either party."
