PakPassion.net understands that Mushtaq Ahmed is keen to take up a coaching role for the Pakistan Cricket Board.

PakPassion.net understands that Mushtaq Ahmed is keen to take up a coaching role for the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Ahmed who is currently the spin bowling coach for England has expressed a serious interest in returning back to Pakistan on a permanent basis and is looking to the PCB to see what they can offer him.

Ahmed has had a successful stint as spin bowling coach for the number one ranked test side and has made many friends amongst the players and coaching staff. Andrew Strauss in particular has been very supportive of Mushtaq and recently Kevin Pietersen stated that Mushtaq had helped him with his problems against spin bowling.

A source close to the PCB confirmed to PakPassion.net that Mushtaq had held a 2 hour meeting with Intikhab Alam recently where they had discussed opportunities for Mushtaq within the Pakistani cricketing structure. Alam is understood to be very keen to utilise Mushtaq's expertise and the meeting was very amicable.

Whilst financially Mushtaq would be earning a lot less money at the PCB, PakPassion.net understands that the main reason for Mushtaq wanting a role at the PCB is so that he can spend more time with his family.

The source stated that Mushtaq had been playing and coaching cricket for many years outside Pakistan and he now feels that the time is right to spend more time with his family and give something back to Pakistani cricket.

At the moment the bowling coach role is still vacant after Aaqib Javed's resignation and discussions have been held between Intikhab Alam, Zaheer Abbas and Naushad Ali regarding the applicants.

Whilst Mushtaq's preference would be for the role of bowling coach, PakPassion.net understands that he may also accept a senior role at the NCA if an offer was made.

When contacted earlier today Intikhab Alam stated that discussions were still ongoing regarding the role of bowling coach, but he denied that he had held a meeting or any discussions with Mushtaq Ahmed.
