Talking to media representatives, former Pakistani batsmen Zaheer Abbas vowed to find said 2 or 3 batsmen like himself if he is appointed as batting coach for Pakistan.

By Amir Husain (15th November, 2012)

Former Pakistani batsmen Zaheer Abbas has vowed to find said 2 or 3 batsmen like himself if he is appointed as batting coach for Pakistan. Talking to media representatives, Zaheer stated that "There is no lack of good batsmen in Pakistan - we just need to fine tune them."

Commenting on the suitability of his own credentials for this important position for the Pakistani team, he further added that when he was manager of the team, batsmen used to ask him for advice as did some well known international names such as Indian batsmen Azharuddin and Sri Lankan Arvinda Desilva. He also recounted an instance when once former coach, the Late Bob Woolmer, complained to the PCB that players were going to him [Zaheer] for advice.

As far as formal qualifications for the batting coach position are concerned, Zaheer said that he didn't need a coaching degree and he would not do a level 1 or 2 coaching course. He believed that his record amply demonstrates his credentials for the job as his performance for Pakistan with over 100 first class centuries to his name was proof enough.

Referring to his recent stint with Sialkot Stallions, Zaheer stated that "If given a chance by PCB, I will solve the problems with the help of my experience. I opted to work as manager to Sialkot Stallions to understand the new improvements in batting techniques of 20 over cricket." He also did not see any reason to be concerned about any potential conflict of interest in terms of working with Head Coach Dav Whatmore stating that "Watmore will do his work and I will do mine"
