Sources close to Umar Akmal confirmed that the young wicketkeeper-batsman was focussed on cricket rather than setting a date for his marriage and that stories in the Pakistani media regarding his marriage were premature.

by Saj Sadiq (26th November 2013)

Sources close to Umar Akmal told PakPassion.net on Tuesday that the young wicketkeeper/batsman was focussed on cricket rather than setting a date for his marriage and that stories in the Pakistani media regarding his marriage were premature.

Some sections of the media suggested that 26th February had been set as the date for Umar Akmal's wedding in Lahore to former Pakistan leg spinner Abdul Qadir's daughter. However the source stated "The stories regarding 26th February being set as the date of Umar's wedding are incorrect as a date has not yet been finalised. Umar himself has not agreed to the date and discussions between the two families are still ongoing."

The source further stated "Umar is fully focussed on cricket rather than his marriage at the moment as he looks to establish himself in the Pakistan team. He is particularly keen to reclaim his place in the Pakistan Test side and to string a run of consistent performances in the limited overs formats."

The source concluded that Umar would prefer if the marriage were to take place following the conclusion of next years World T20 in Bangladesh and that he hopes both families will settle on a date after this very important tournament, a competition that Umar hopes will see individual and team success for him.
