ZTBL openers Imran Nazir and Sharjeel Khan showed few nerves as they batted in the final, providing rich entertainment for the crowd with shots all around the park. They put on a breathtaking 85-run stand in just 9.1 overs, laying the platform for ZTBL. However, as is often the case, one wicket brought two and both openers were trapped lbw by Imran Ali in the same over.

Yasir Hameed and Haris Sohail came to the crease and took a bit of time to settle in, sharing a 54-run third-wicket partnership off 7 overs, a run rate of 7.53 in comparison to the 9.27 of the opening stand. Yasir Hameed was dismissed after scoring 32(25), caught Misbah-ul-Haq bowled Bilawal Bhatti.

The departure of Yasir Hameed seemed to spur Haris Sohail and with a few overs remaining and his eye in, the youngster bludgeoned an unbeaten 58 off just 32 balls including five fours and three sixes, to propel ZTBL to a highly competitive 184 for 3.

It was a tough outing for the SNGPL bowlers, none of whom managed an economy rate of below eight runs per over.

An electrifying atmosphere at the Gaddafi Stadium added extra pressure to the SNGPL batsmen as they began their run chase, and their plight was made all the more difficult by left-arm paceman Usman Khan, who struck twice in the first over. Mohammad Rizwan was the first to leave after edging to the wicket-keeper and his opening partner followed a couple of deliveries later as Taufeeq Umar was bowled and SNGPL has gotten off to a nightmare start, with both batsmen recording ducks.

Usman Khan came back in his second over to to remove Ali Waqas (1) and Misbah-ul-Haq (0) as slumped to SNGPL to 9 for 4. Umar Akmal showed some resistance and smashed 16 runs off Mohammad Khalil in the fourth over, but this didn’t last for long as he was caught on 19.

Bilawal Bhatti, who impressed on the recent tour of South Africa, came out to bat and carried on his good form with the bat by scoring a brisk 38 off 20 deliveries in which he hit two sixes and five fours before being caught by Shakeel Ansar from a top edge. Medium-pacer Imran Khan backed-up his partner, Usman Khan, with three wickets as SNGPL were bowled out for 106 in 16.1 overs.

Summary

Left-armer Usman Khan saved his best for last and produced a magical spell of bowling to win the game and the title for his side as his maiden five-wicket haul in Twenty20 cricket helped ZTBL to an empathic victory. Haris Sohail’s flawless half-century prior to that helped ZTBL post a momentous total. Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited routed Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited by 78 runs at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore to win the Faysal Bank T20 Cup for Departments. Usman Khan Shinwari was named Man of the Match for his match-winning figures of 5 for 9 and also ended the campaign as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament.
