I'd heard reports from my brother in law in Kenya that Anwer is a humble, down to earth and very respectful young man and I wasnt disappointed when I spoke to him today. A charming, very down to earth and humble lad. The sort of guy who you can only wish the best to for the future.
I'd heard reports from my brother in law in Kenya that Anwer is a humble, down to earth and very respectful young man and I wasnt disappointed when I spoke to him today.

A charming, very down to earth and humble lad. The sort of guy who you can only wish the best to for the future.

I introduced myself as Shajeel of Nairobi's brother in law and immediately he said oh yes PakPassionwala. I laughed and replied yes PakPassionwala (seems like a lot of thes players are reading the odd post or two on PP).

I started by asking Anwer who he thought were PIA's main rivals for the ongoing RBS Cup. He stated that he felt PIA stood a very good chance to win the trophy especially as they have a very balanced team and Shoaib Malik is in good form and is being supported well by the likes of Yasir Hameed and Faisal Iqbal. Anwer stated that he thought National Bank, Habib Bank and KRL presented the biggest threats to PIA and the win against KRL in the opening match was a very good one.

I then asked him about what aspects of his cricket he is currently working upon. Anwer stated that he is working hard with Moin Khan his coach at PIA in all aspects of his game as he has ambitions to become a genuine all rounder. He feels that he is not an out and out pace bowler and relies more on the ability to swing the ball and his line and length. He stated that cricket is all about continually learning and trying to improve.

I then asked him who was offering him the best advice on how to improve his game. Anwer stated that it was very useful having a seasoned professional like Moin Khan at PIA who has a lot of faith in Anwer's ability. Also players like current skipper Shoaib Malik are very handy to have around him when offering tips.

I then asked him if he had any plans to play County or club cricket in the UK. Anwer stated its funny you should ask me that but I have signed a contract at Colne Cricket Club in the Lancashire League as their overseas professional for 2009. He stated that he was really looking forward to the challenge of playing in the UK and thinks that his bowling would be well suited to conditions in the UK.

I stated that I'm not far away from Colne and I might pay him a surprise vist there one day. He said I'd be most welcome.

I then stated to Anwer that after the Under 19 World Cup he became a very popular name on PakPassion and he has a huge number of fans on the site. He replied with please ask all your members to remember me in their prayers.

I said to Anwer that we'd like to interview him in future and he said he would enjoy that.
