I’ve just been chatting to Pakistan’s brightest and newest pace sensation Muhammed Aamer. The promising young left armer has been selected for the Twenty/20 World Cup in England and has really impressed a lot of current and former Pakistani players including Wasim Akram with his attitude and his ability.

Aamer has had a phenomenal domestic season and has really moved up the pecking order with his pace, swing and bounce troubling all comers on predominantly batting friendly tracks in Pakistan.

His selection for the Twenty/20 World Cup has come as no surprise to PakPassion members, in fact the majority would say that the selection is long overdo.

I introduced myself and told him about PakPassion. He was aware of who I was and Pakpassion as he had met my brother in law whilst in Kenya when he was touring there with the Academy side last year.

Here’s the interview:-

Saj : Many congratulations Aamer on your selection for the Twenty/20 World Cup. How does it feel to be selected for such a prestigious tournament?

Aamer : Thanks very much Sajid bhai, it feels great that I have been chosen to represent my country in England and I’m looking forward to give my best for my country.

Saj : Did you have an inkling that you would be selected for the World Cup?

Aamer : I’ve been performing well in domestic cricket and taking wickets and the selectors have been watching my performance very closely and coming to watch some of the matches I have been playing in, so I was hopeful that I may get selected but I certainly wasn’t totally sure that I would be chosen.

Saj : What are you up to at the moment now that the main domestic competitions are over?

Aamer : I’m keeping myself in shape by playing some local club cricket which allows me to maintain fitness and continue trying to improve aspects of my game.

Saj : Any news on the training camp before the World Cup?

Aamer : The training camp will commence on either 21st or 22nd May, but as yet the venue of either Lahore or Karachi has not yet been confirmed.

Saj : Will you be playing in the domestic Twenty/20 competition prior to the World Cup?

Aamer : Yes I will be playing for the Rawalpindi Rams team once again and hoping to do my best for them.

Saj : Whats the strategy for bowling on the international scene in a batting friendly competition like the Twenty/20 World Cup?

Aamer : I’m really looking forward to it, really excited about it. As far as I am concerned a good delivery is a good delivery in any form of the game and to any batsman, whether it be twenty over cricket or test cricket. I have self belief and I am confident that I can bowl well to even the best players in the world.

Saj : You have really improved as a bowler in recent times, what would you attribute that to?

Aamer : I’ve really been working hard to improve my fitness and also some of the technical aspects of the game and that has resulted in more confidence and by the grace of God I have had some good results.

Saj : Many thanks Aamer for your time today and I look forward to meeting you during your stay in the UK. I’d also like to wish you all the best from the membership of Pakpassion.net

Aamer : Many thanks to you and all of your members for the kind wishes and yes it will be good to meet up when I am in England.
