Speaking at a Charity event at Old Trafford football ground in Manchester on Wednesday 19th August, Shahid Afridi paid tribute to Pakistan's one day and test skipper Younis Khan.
"Younis is like an older brother to me and a lot of the younger players. It doesnt make any difference to him whether a player is Punjabi, from Karachi, Pathan or whatever else, he treats everyone the same and really looks after all of us".
Afridi who was inspirational in the Twenty/20 World Cup earlier this year and man of the match in the final further added "Younis has a lot of respect for all the guys in the team, whether you are a senior player or new to international cricket. This makes everyone feel welcome and part of the setup and not an outsider and has really made us gel as a team".
Afridi continued "Younis and I were on a flight together before the Twenty/20 World Cup and talking about the difficulties in Pakistan and how the people were really depressed. We thought how brilliant would it be if we could win the World Cup for the people of Pakistan. That conversation on the flight made us even more determined to lift the trophy and was the start of our dream to win the comeptition for the people of Pakistan".
Afridi further added "Younis is like an older brother to me, he inspires me and this charity work we are doing together has further enhanced our relationship and respect".
Younis Khan and Shahid Afridi are on a whistlestop tour of the UK working on behalf of Islamic Relief to raise awareness and funds for the people of Swat Valley. The funds being raised as a result of charity events, auctions and tv appeals are being directed towards the children of the region in building schools and providing some sort of healthcare system.
