Speaking exclusively to PakPassion.net former Pakistan assistant coach Aaqib Javed suggested that a successful and effective coach is one who takes pride in his work.
"I'm not one for shouting at the players, or making a lot of noise for the sake of it. Coaching players is all about taking pride in your work and ensuring that you show a caring attitude towards the players. You have to be able to communicate effectively, pay attention to detail, as well as be able to listen to what the players are telling you. At the end of the day the players input into discussions is invaluable", stated Aaqib.
Aaqib who represented Pakistan on 185 occasions and also played county cricket for Hampshire continued "you have to earn the respect of the players you are working with. We have to be pulling in the same direction. I work very hard with the players and in return the players who work hard for me get their rewards".
Aaqib who was recently relieved from his duties as assistant to Intikhab Alam and replaced by Mohtashim Rasheed further added "I'll be heading up a fast bowlers camp starting in Lahore on 25th September. The camp will last a couple of weeks and will prepare the boys for the Quaid e Azam Trophy competition which is due to start on 10th October. The players scheduled to attend the camp will be announced by the selectors in 3 or 4 days time, but it will comprise of the boys that are on the fringes of national selection like Wahab and Talha, as well as some of the promising Under 19 bowlers. It should be a good couple of weeks and I'm really looking forward to it".
There has recently been some uncertainty regarding Aaqib's future and speculation was rife that he may return to a role at the National Cricket Academy, however Aaqib stated to PakPassion that "I had a meeting with PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt and he has suggested to me that for now I will be working at fast bowling camps alongside the likes of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, rather than returning to the Academy. Lets wait and see what happens in the future though".
