Speaking exclusively from Peshawar to PakPassion.net, Pakistan batsman Yasir Hameed stated that the forthcoming Quaid e Azam Trophy competition was a very important one for him.

"I'm really looking forward to the Quaid e Azam Trophy competition which starts on 10th October. I'll be playing once again for PIA and our training camp will start soon. My preparations for the domestic season have to be spot on" stated the 31 year old right hander.

Hameed who last represented Pakistan in December 2007 during the drawn Bangalore test match against India, wherein he scored 39 off 41 deliveries in the second innings added "I want to start the domestic season in good form and I'm feeling really fit and confident and have been working hard on my game during the off season. The coming season is a very busy one for Pakistan, with lots of cricket to be played in UAE, New Zealand, Australia and England and I am very keen to regain my place in the Pakistan team".

Hameed who averages nearly 35 in tests and just under 37 in one day international cricket continued "I've been selected for the Hong Kong sixes and this further gives me the opportunity to impress. My aim is to score lots of runs in the Quaid e Azam trophy and catch the eye of Iqbal Qasim and the other selectors. I hope that by scoring heavily in domestic cricket, the selectors will give me another opportunity to represent my country".

In a recent interview with PakPassion, former Pakistan coach Mudassar Nazar recalled how Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar rated Yasir Hameed very highly and was very disappointed that the selectors had regularly dropped him from the Pakistan squad.

Yasir remains one of the most eye-catching and fluent batsmen in Pakistani cricket and it remains to be seen if he can fight his way back into the Pakistan squad.
