Speaking from Lahore to PakPassion.net, 19 year old opening batsman Nasir Jamshed recalled how a chat with 28 year old Indian opening batsman Gautam Gambhir really helped him.

"Last year when India were touring Pakistan, I went to Gautam for some advice on my batting. I am one of those players who is constantly asking for advice from my fellow cricketers, and I thought who else would be better to get advice from, than a fellow left handed opening batsman. I had made a half century off 43 balls but had to retire hurt and I approached Gautam about what he thought of my batting and where I could improve", stated the talented left hander.

Jamshed who missed out on selection for Pakistan's one day squad against New Zealand stated that Gambhir was very approachable and very sincere with his advice. "Gautam said to me that he was impressed with my batting and that I had a good selection of shots. He told me to look for more singles especially against the spinners, instead of looking for too many big shots against the slow bowlers. He also advised me to improvise against the quick bowlers, look to unsettle them, go down the track, move around the crease, keep the quick bowlers guessing as to what your next move will be".

Jamshed who has represented Pakistan in 12 one day internationals, scoring 4 half centuries, including half centuries in his first 2 international matches, against Zimbabwe further added "Gambhir also said to me that you can never practice enough, keep practising, keep learning about the game, keep looking to improve, work on the aspects of your game that need working on. As an opening batsman you shouldn't just look to score 30s and 40s and think your job is done. Scores of 30 and 40 won't win your team too many matches, you need to look to make scores that will help your team win matches, look to stay at the crease and look to score centuries".
