I understand that calendars are tight etc but wouldn't it be great to see the 3 Asian powerhouses playing a one match Test Championship?

What will you choose if there is a T20 match between India vs Pakistan, a tennis match between Nadal and Federer and a Brazil v Argentina football match going on at the same time? And you have to just choose 1 out of these.

Looking at the India Test squad the chances are very slim, England can be real force against them as they did it last time when India tour in England and complete clean sweep by 4-0.

Sri Lanka on the other hand has done well in Lord's Test to drew it while 9 down but they are in deep in this Leeds Test.

Watching these world cup football matches reminds me of a quote by philosopher CRL James. James claimed that cricket was the only intellectual sport. He also claimed that the number of variables, permutations and outcomes during each ball bowled of cricket, dwarfs any other sport. He also claimed that batsmen in cricket have available to them more angles, options and shots than other sports involving bats and rackets. Indeed, James (probably unfairly) said cricket was most comparable to ballet, in that it utilized every muscle and body part, and didn't tend to prioritize them.

Watching these World Cup football matches...that's certainly how I feel. Football - whilst arguably more physically taxing that cricket - just doesn't engage the mind in the same way. It seems more straightforward, lacking the nuances and possibilities of cricket. And of course the discourse surrounding cricket has always seemed more "elitist" and "high brow" than other sports, despite that sport thriving precisely because of its mass appeal.
