I have been studying the books of John Woodcock and Cristopher Martin Jenkins on their 100 best cricketers of all time. No doubt, they produced outstanding works and truly great selections. However I felt they both had an accute bias towards English cricketers in selection and ranking. I complement Woodcock a little more with his fair selection of Kanhai,Hanif Mohammad etc.Readers should count the no of non-English cricketers who arguably deserved a place in that top 100 bracket.
The word 'great' is an often misused word. Some cricketers statistics make them all-time greats but arguably do not reflect their performances in true light. Vice-versa some cricketers statistics do not accurately portray their moral contributions. It was the legendary Gray Sobers who felt that the tag of 'great' was wrongly awarded to some cricketers. To me it means a combination of consistency, class and temperament. Consistently blooming in a crisis is a very important factor and ability to master difficult bowling attacks and wickets.
Where does one begin?
1. Fix issues with the young guys? U Akmal, Jamshed, Maqsood - wouldnt it be great if Flower were to iron out their issues and turn each into a world beater?
2. Get our tailenders to bat "better"?
How else can he help Pakistan?
All they have done is react - I dont see anything which tells me that they have broken up some big corruption racket etc
For that matter, can any organization stop corruption rather than deal with its after effects?
