Lahore: Pakistan's national selection committee will meet in Lahore on Friday to name the probables for the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in England in June.
"The chief selector, Iqbal Qasim, has been told by the Pakistan Cricket Board to hold a meeting of its selection committee to name the probables for the Champions Trophy. The participating nations will have to submit a preliminary list of 30 players by April 4 and then the final squad of 15 by May 4," a source told PTI.
The selectors will also examine the reasons behind Pakistan's disappointing tour of South Africa, where they lost both the Test and ODI series.
"The meeting which is to be held on Friday could also see serious discussions on the future of some senior players," the source added.
"The selectors are ready to make wholesome changes for the Champions Trophy but some players Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi and Umar Gul are likely to be retained for the tournament," he added.
Chief selector John Inverarity has spoken glowingly of refugee wrist spinner Fawad Ahmed, of his desire to consider him for the Ashes, and how "it would be a "wonderful thing for Australian society" if he represented his adopted nation.
Inverarity said he had been impressed by Ahmed, who escaped persecution in Pakistan to rebuild his life and cricket career in Victoria, and that he would be a strong contender to tour England as the second spinner if he were eligible before the Ashes.
That's where O'Connor, a keen cricket fan in a federal government that could do worse than be seen to boost Australia's forlorn Ashes hopes, comes in.
Ahmed can only be considered if his citizenship and Australian passport are fast-tracked. Otherwise, under ICC rules, he does not become available until August 18, before the fifth Test at the Oval.
Cricket Australia is investigating precedents in Olympic sports and tennis to speed up the process.
After a long time I saw a bowler who swung the white ball big time. And the the good thing is that he swung it both ways.
