Not very impressive today against India and nothing too flash against Pakistan in the previous series - Is it time for the old warrior to hang his boots?
Ashes 2006/7: Average 27, England are thrashed 5-0.
Ashes 2009: Average 24.6, England beat Australia 2-1.
Ashes 2010/11: Average 127.6, England beat Australia 3-1.
Ashes 2013: Average 27.7, England beat Australia 3-0.
Ashes 2013/14: Average 27*, England are being thrashed 3-0*
One in five has got to be an anomaly. Dismal failure as captain too.
Do you agree with above?
Do you think none of our quicks look threatening enough with the new or old ball if Irfan is not in the team? Do you think, Pakistan management should give up with likes of S Tanvir and try new lads like Sadaf Hussain, Ehsan Adil or someone else?
Tahir Naqqash was a medium fast bowler who didn't shine up to his potential. He played 15 tests and 40 ODIs for Pakistan but failed to make a big impact. In his career, he managed to take 34 wickets in each format during his 5 years career.
On debut, playing as part of a young and inexperienced Pakistan side, Tahir Naqqash and Rashid Khan led the Pakistan pace attack in the absence of Sikandar Bakht who had retired hurt after bowling just one over.
We have persisted with the 6+ bowlers policy since the late 90s, all the while neglecting our fragile batting. Is this a wise policy?
Today's Pakistan batting innings should be the final nail in the "keep wickets up front and go berserk later" approach coffin, inspired by Shehzad and Jamshed which clearly does not work and at least hasn't worked for us.
Last time another batsmen scored an ODI century batting at number 3 for Pakistan was on 16 November 2008 when Younis Khan did it against West Indies.
