The elder brother of Ramiz Raja, Wasim Raja represented Pakistan from 1973 to 1985, playing 57 Tests and 54 ODIs. 
 
Wasim Raja was a hard-hitting left-handed middle order batsman who was known for his wristy strokeplay. He was a more than useful bowler who bowled leg spin. He also had a great reputation as an excellent fielder in the cover region.

Sad to see a loyal servant of NZ cricket bow out quietly but he will know the bowling attack is now in good capable hands. Known to most NZ fans as a tireless and full-hearted bowler who while never a world beater could still run through the best lineups on his day. Carried the seam attack during Shane Bond's many injured spells and dragged NZ cricket through a rough patch with bowling partners 15 years his junior.

Pakistan-born leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed has been cleared to play in the Ashes after he was granted Australian citizenship.

Nathan Lyon is currently the only spinner in the Australia squad for the five-Test series, which begins at Trent Bridge on 10 July, but they could now call on Ahmed after he took advantage of legislation passed by the Australian Senate to fast-track citizenship in special cases.
