Although Pakistan of late are persisting with older cricketers, we must not forget that Pakistan possess some of the worlds most talented youngsters. Its just a case of them getting games, but under Misbah that seems highly unlikely. In my view Pakistan have the best range of young cricketers available to them from all cricketing countries and its just a matter of them gaining experience at the top level now.

In 1987 at Headingley, Imran Khan became the first Pakistani to take 300 wickets in Tests and 8th player to have achieved this feat.

The 300th wicket was that of English wicketkeeper Jack Richards who tried to work the ball on the onside only to find Ijaz Ahmed who took a brilliant catch at short leg.

Do you think there's a problem with having too many quality cricketers? Does that throw the team lineup into a constant state of flux?

Is it just me or does the squad for the Caribbean barring perhaps one or two selections look so much stronger and better balanced than the squad for the Champions Trophy?

Looking at the squad for the Champions Trophy it was blatantly obvious that there were too many bowlers in the squad and that proved to be true, as the batsmen struggled for form in England.

The make up of the ODI squad for the West Indies is as follows :-

7 Batsman
2 all rounders
2 spinners
4 fast bowlers
1 wk batsman

Better late than never I suppose.

ODI squad: Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Nasir Jamshed, Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Hafeez, Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal (wk), Shahid Afridi, Saeed Ajmal, Wahab Riaz, Junaid Khan, Mohammad Irfan, Asad Ali, Umar Amin, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Abdur Rehman, Haris Sohail

T20 squad: Mohammad Hafeez (capt), Nasir Jamshed, Ahmed Shehzad, Haris Sohail, Umar Akmal (wk), Hammad Azam, Shahid Afridi, Saeed Ajmal, Sohail Tanvir, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Irfan, Asad Ali, Umar Amin, Zulfiqar Babar, Junaid Khan

The selection committee (being held accountable) has finally produced a squad that you can call capable, though not perfect. So what is your ideal playing 11 in the first match of both formats?

ODI:

Nasir Jamshed
Mohammed Hafeez
Umar Akmal
Mohammed Rizwan (+)
Haris Sohail
Misbah Ul Haq (C)
Shahid Afridi
Asad Ali (2)
Junaid Khan (1)
Saeed Ajmal
Mohammed Irfan

- Nice balance between stabilizers & run-getters.

T20: (Akmal +)

Nasir Jamshed
Ahmed Shehzad
Mohammed Hafeez (C)
Umar Akmal (+)
Haris Sohail
Umar Amin
Hammad Azam
Shahid Afridi
Junaid Khan
Saeed Ajmal
Mohammed Irfan

- I think we lack an additional specialist batsmen in our T20 squad

Who would you hand the gloves to for the ODI series v the West Indies?

Umar Akmal to bolster the batting?

Or the young debutant, Mohammad Rizwan to see if he can mark his place in the team?

The elder brother of Ramiz Raja, Wasim Raja represented Pakistan from 1973 to 1985, playing 57 Tests and 54 ODIs.

Wasim Raja was a hard-hitting left-handed middle order batsman who was known for his wristy strokeplay. He was a more than useful bowler who bowled leg spin. He also had a great reputation as an excellent fielder in the cover region.
