edia people are suggesting his name to be captain.

People go on talking about him like he is an outstanding batsman and one to look out for the future in ODI.

Honestly I am confused by the treatment he is being given.

We keep on bashing that Malik, Younus , Afridi Farhat are all ODI failures, but do not mention Asad Shafiq.

Do people even bother looking at stats. I think he should be sent packing for the next ODI series and be replaced by someone who does well in domestic.

Lets look at this from stats.

Asad Shafiq has a domestic OD average of 39. Nothing spectacular, there are many guys in domestic with far better records.

But OK lets look at the international scene:

In 2012 he had 11 innings for 267 runs at an avg of 26.7 and SR of 71, 2 50s and 0 100s
In 2013 he has had 6 matches, 143 runs at an average of 23.83 and a SR of 73 with 1 50.

Here is the best part about his 2013, his 1 50 is against Ireland, take that out and we are looking at 60 runs in 5 innings! How is that not a complete failure??

That is quite a bad record over the last 17 games. Lets be honest, none of us would want a batsman averaging around 25 in our middle order.

His performance are just as bad as Farhat.

lets be honest his game is not suited for ODI and instead of being made captain he should be dropped and replaced by someone else like Harris Sohail!

Disucss!

So the disappointing Champions Trophy is done and dusted, next up for Pakistan is a tour of West Indies.

What changes do you expect to see in the squad and what changes are you hoping to see in the squad?

Unfortunately in Pakistani cricket those are two very different questions!

We have already heard many rumors of Afridi, Younus, Gul & Umar Akmal returning for the tour of the Caribbean - do you agree with any or all of these changes, or do you think it is just a case of one step forward two steps back?

Although Pakistan's pace attack performance in CT13 was decent but it appear that  it still has work to do specially when it comes to bowl with new ball. Could the presence of a decent swing bowler up front make a difference?

Just one bowler in the world who could be called a "great" and a handful of young batsmen trying to make their mark. Could we be in the middle of the Dark Ages in cricketing terms?

A more than decent wicketkeeper, an excellent batsmen in all forms of the game and a very successful captain.

How successful would India be without 'Dhoni -  The Captain'?

Looking beyond the recently concluded Champions Trophy and essentially preparing for 2015 World Cup, which players would you have in your playing XI?

Here are the facts:

1) Our current middle order in tests is Azhar, Younis, Misbah, Shafiq. It'll be very difficult for any batsman to make his way in that lineup

2) Fawad Alam averages 55 in Pakistan domestic cricket; the highest FC average in the history of Pak. cricket

3) Alam has opened before anyway making 168 on test debut

4) Who would you play in seam-friendly conditions anyway, Hafeez or Fawad?

Here's my team for Tests

Fawad Alam
Khurram Manzoor / Taufeeq Umar
Azhar Ali
Younis Khan
Misbah ul Haq
Asad Shafiq
Mohammad Rizwan

I hope the rumours are not true that Asad Ali will be replaced by Sohail Tanvir in the ODI squad. Although he didn't play in the champions trophy, i thought he was one of the few positives of the tour. In the pre tournament matches he showed great control of line and length as well as the vital trait of nipping the ball in and out. Also bowled quite well at the death and overall he seems to be a smart operator.

His style of bowling compliments the pace attack well and i feel he is just the type of bowler we need. With the three left armers already in the ODI squad there really is no need for the mediocre Sohail Tanvir. Asad's domestic record (both first class and list A) is as good as any Pakistani pacer out there today and he really does deserve to be persisted with in the ODI squad and also given a run in the test side.

Sohail Tanvir, Tanvir Ahmed, Mohammad Sami, Yasir Arafat and Aizaz Cheema would all represent a step back. The bowling attack is fine as it is, lets just hope the 'selectors'/higher powers see it this way!
