'2nd MARCH SUNDAY', exactly one month from now India will face Pakistan in Asia cup at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. India vs Pakistan match is always is the ace spectacle for any tournament, more so in Asia cup as other games in this series are generally boring. Since we dont play against each other often, this is one of the most awaited games of 2014.
There are many mini battles to look forward in this game:
Kohli vs Junaid - This will be the prime battle according to me as these 2 yet to face each other after the Dec series. Lots of talks, hype been made about Kohli been Junaid's bunny make this battle even more mouth watering.
Bhuv vs Junaid - Though Junaid is on a different league as a bowler, but if you look at a certain thread in Pakpassion this debate is going on for ages. Both these bowlers have good records in Indo - Pak game and it will be interesting to know who comes on top this game.
Misbah vs Dhoni - Match winner, finisher, composed skipper are the general attributes linked to both of these players. It will be battle of skippers and we need to wait to see who comes on top.
Please fill free to add any battles you are looking forward I might have missed.
Apart from the age old rivalry, this Indo Pak match will be even more special as its coming after the 'Big 3' vs PCB battle. I am sure there will be some sort of enormity from Pakistan players to prove a point against BCCI. Also not allowing Pak players in IPL is another reason to prove a point.
All in all it will be a mouth watering contest and I can't wait for - 2 March 2014
Expressing his desire to serve Pakistan productively in international cricket, dashing young opener Sharjeel Khan on Thursday said that doing well in the coming World Twenty20 in Bangladesh will be his immediate aim.
No doubt Test Cricket is the real deal but lets take a look at the reality and you will see that it will surely be extinct in future maybe in the next 10 years.
01. There are more than 200 countries in the world but only 10 play it.
02. The quality of Cricket in tests is clearly diverse among the 10 test playing nations.
03. Most of the test teams apart from England and Australia are disinterested in tests.
04. Too long (5 days)
05. Even with 5 days results can still end in draws.
06. Weather interruptions (which usually spoils test matches).
07. Most test teams lose money playing Test Cricket.
08. Poor crowd levels.
09. Broadcasters aren't interested in tests.
10. Introduction and popularity of T20 has severely damaged tests and left in the wild.
11. Old fashion (Dressed in whites, tea breaks etc) not ideal in this technological future.
12. Pitches have become flatter for test matches making games dull.
13. Same repeated series.
14. Poor tv ratings.
15. Lack of context to test series.
16. 2 test series has been placed and usually ends all square.
17. Lack of quality test players compared to previous generations today.
18. Test Cricket is too slow.
19. Cannot even form a proper fair World Test Championship.
20. Test Cricket is unpopular throughout the world even among many test teams.
Our fielding has drastically improved under his tenure. Junaid is taking catches, Ajmal is not being a vacuum in the field, and even the larger guys have made strides.
Please PCB. Do the sensible thing. We finally have someone that can teach the younger guys!
A total of 755,754 people attended the test series despite neither the Melbourne or Sydney tests lasting to the 5th day and the Adelaide Oval having a restricted capacity.
In the 5 match ODI series a total of 153,480 people attended.
In the first T20 just under 11,000 people attended the match in a capacity restricted Bellerive Oval and over 60,000 people attended the 2nd match in Melbourne.
So Australia is 20,000 people short of breaking the one million attendance mark with one T20 match in Sydney to come (in a stadium that can hold 80,000 people).
In addition the domestic one day competion was shown FTA for the first time in a while and got decent ratings and the BBL has had brilliant tv ratings (around the same mark with the AFL and the NRL) and the BBL has averaged over 19,000 people per match, making it the 2nd best attended league in Australia and in the top 5 for the Southern Hemisphere.
This has nothing to do with how many wickets he takes in this innings but just his bowling in general. He is clearly our second best front line spinner after ajmal. His control, line and length is very good for a left armer, he spins the ball sufficiently, very accurate but what impresses me most about him is the fact he pitches the ball on leg, middle stump and he always brings the lbw to play, if the ball spins it brings the outside edge or stumping to play and Ofcourse keeps the runs in check.
He was one of the main architects of the Eng 2012 whitewash and makes ajmal even more potent with the pressure he creates. He should have been given more opportunities than he got.
Nasir Jamshed has slimmed down. Can he now regain some form and stake a claim for the Asia Cup?
