Zimbabwean batsmen continued their stubborn show of defiance this morning as they racked up a pretty impressive 78 run lead before the brilliance of a Saeed Ajmal 7-Fer special stopped them in their tracks. The Pakistani top-order in return failed to make amends as they were reduced to 27/3 before a near epic 116 run stand between the Misbah and Younis provided Pakistan with a fig leaf of respect. Misbah's departure after yet another 50 to his name has allowed Zimbabwe with another whiff of a historic victory. A target of 200 or more could prove to be too stiff a challenge for the hosts but Pakistan have a lot of work to do to make that happen.
I think anywhere between 170-200 would be enough against the Zimbabwean batting line in the 4th innings , especially against Ajmal.
Which innings is the best so far in this match depending on the situation?
Azhar 78
Waller 70
Misbah 53
Sikandar 60
Ajmal 49
Chigumbura 40
I will go for Waller 70...Came at 68/3 and got his team to 195/4 with the help of Sikandar...That 127 runs partnership was just awesome...
Winning the toss, Pakistan put England in to bat. In their allotted 50 overs, England managed to score 271 courtesy of some useful contributions from Strauss, Dalrymple, and Collingwood. Not known for chasing down totals, Pakistan started in typical style - losing openers Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik cheaply with the scorecard reading 29/2. In came Younis Khan at number 3 and he was busy at the crease from the onset. He paired with Mohammad Yousuf for a 167-run 4th wicket partnership to steady the ship, all the while ensuring that the innings never lost momentum and that the RRR remained in control.
There is a triple century scored in every country if talk about top 8 nations except South Africa. Most triple centuries are scored in England and West Indies, 7 Times in both countries by 6 different players.
So far South Africa is the only country from top 8 where no triple century is scored. The highest score in South Africa is 275 by Gary Kirsten. Stephen Fleming scored 262 in South Africa against South Africa.
So can we expect a triple century in South Africa in next few years? I know South Africa is a graveyard for most of SC batsmen...and for most of the batsmen who can't handle fast bowling so it's going to be tough...
We don't have a single great player in our team. Many in Pakistan consider Afridi as a great player. 90s cricket of tuk tuk into half centuries can get anyone runs. Ajmal is in his heydays, we don't have a single consistent big hitter anymore. At this point West Indies bowlers are bowling better than Pakistani bowlers and Bangladeshi Batsmen are batting better than Pakistani Batsmen.
The day did not start well for Pakistan as Saeed Ajmal was unable to add to his overnight score and the day ended with a moral victory for Zimbabwe as they sit happily on a 32 run lead.Pakistani bowlers were able to break through in fits and starts but the Zimbabwean batsmen, in particular Messrs Sikander, Waller and Chigumbura defied Pakistani bowling to the last ball of the day. Whilst questions were raised about Mohammad Hafeez's fitness as he failed to bowl even one over all day, it was left to the class of Saeed Ajmal and Junaid Khan to provide some rays of sunshine in an otherwise utterly forgettable day for Pakistan. They will hope for a magical turnaround to their fortunes on Day 3 or face more humiliation on the field.
After his brilliant hundred vs Ireland yesterday, has the time come for Ravi Bopara to cement a permanent spot in the England team?
