Geoff Henry Lawson.
As PCB embarks on another "Coach Dhoondo" campaign, I would like to draw their attention to a man who who we unceremoniously discarded - another of Ijaz Butt's masterpieces.
Lawson was appointed Pakistan Head Coach on 16 July 2007, for a period of 2 years. On 20 October 2008, it was decided by Butt that his contract would not be renewed in April 2009. One of Butt's classic lines about a coach who had nothing but love for Pakistan and its people "Lawson is a useless man. But there is no use removing him now and we will allow him to complete his contract which will not be renewed.
Unlike many others, I really have no issue with Najam Sethi.
After all, running PCB is not a God Given right which is bestowed on a select few. He has the same right to be in Chairman's positions as anyone else before him. After all what democratic process has any appointment ever followed in PCB?
My only problem with Mr. Sethi is that with even with a background in journalism, he is unable to implement the most basic ideal of any journalist. What I refer to is one word only.
Accountability.
I was thinking how cricket can be played amongst more countries on a larger scale, what would it be like have 20 odd teams in various groups in a World Tournament.
In the Domestic Market players would be traded during the transfer windows. Players would have contracts and bonus schemes.
Do you think this would work?
