It was so refreshing seeing Pakistan play the brand of cricket that we have been starved for since the past couple of years. Can we expect Misbah to take the same attitude and brand of cricket that we have been known for forward or will we once again go back to our shells and resort to tuk tuk at first sign of pressure?
First let me dispense with the usual disclaimers: I am not a hater, I am a big fan of Misbah as I hope most of my posts attest. And if this question has been asked before, lets merge this thread.
Misbah is 39 years old, and by coming May he will be 40. I think he should play as long as he can and I would not advocate his removal as batsman, but in professional sport, it becomes tougher as you get older, the reflexes get slower, the body takes longer to recover from injuries. I suspect he wants to hang up his boots after the world cup.
Surely, PCB must start thinking now. I believe a few of their punts on future captains have failed: it is quite clear that Hafeez is not cut out for test cricket: there are a few theories floating around that he should play at number 6, but I believe these theories will come to a naught once we tour again and are confronted by a quality attack on helpful pitches. There was premature talk some time ago, about Umar Akmal – I think he has some work to do before he comes to the test squad. On Umer Amin, the less said the better.
From my point of view, the decision on who is Pakistan’s next captain is part of the riddle, the more important issue is whether PCB and its selectors have the spine and vision to withstand the pressure from fickle fans, and agenda driven ex-players and the press to keep faith with whomever they appoint.
The recent history is not very encouraging: Pakistan’s captaincy remained tumultuous since Inzi departure. It took a series of un-intentional events to usher in this period of relative calm: malik’s removal, butt’s disgrace, yk’s gone fishing and oath-gate, the retirement of perennial cry-babies and troublemakers like Akhtar, Yousuf, and Razzaq.
So the question is who will be Pakistan’s next test captain and will the PCB show some vision with their choice or fold cravenly in face of public pressure.
By average:

8. Mohammad Hafeez: 10 inns, 190 runs, 21.11 ave, 52.63 strike rate, 0 100s, 1 50s
No surprise to see that man Misbah on top - but is that a true measure of his utility to the team?
Most Test wins as Pakistan captain : Imran 14, Miandad 14, Wasim 12, Misbah 11, Inzamam 11, Waqar 10
Its a shame our next Test series is 10 months away! Hopefully something is scheduled in before that October series with Australia.
Going forward we need to give Sarfraz Ahmed a solid run in the test side, hopefully they don't resort back to the awful adnan.
I would persist with the Manzoor/Shehzad opening combo for the time being. If either fails I would push up Azhar Ali to open the batting. In my opinion Asad Shafiq deserves to be dropped from the test squad, he's a batsman of good potential but at this time Haris Sohail or Sohaib Maqsood are better options at number 6.
They say the best form of defence is offence! There defensive approach not only cost them the game but also a few friends !
